TikTok Shop continues to strengthen its platform integrity and ensure a safe, trustworthy shopping environment. Effective 25 March, two key updates affect how sellers list products: rules against fictitious listings and guidelines for mobile phone pricing. Understanding these changes is essential for maintaining compliance and protecting your reputation on the platform.

1. Fictitious Listings Are Strictly Prohibited
A fictitious listing is a product that isn’t real, has no practical purpose, or is not genuinely intended for sale. TikTok Shop prohibits these listings because they can mislead buyers, damage trust, and harm the overall shopping experience on the platform. Essentially, if a product isn’t real or useful, it shouldn’t be listed.
Some examples:
-
Impossible or joke products: Items that don’t exist or can’t work, like an “Invisible phone,” “UFO from space,” or “Magic anti-gravity shoes.” These are clearly meant as jokes, not real products.
-
Human-related listings: Any offerings involving people, like “Rent a boyfriend,” “Adopt a person,” or “Order a bride,” which are harmful and strictly banned.
-
Comedic or stunt items: Products posted purely for memes or stunts, such as an “Anti-wind dress made from plastic bag,” “Paper cup sold for RM9,999,” or even “Air for sale.” These have no real value.
Sellers who post such listings risk enforcement actions, including removal of the product or disconnection from Affiliate Creators. The purpose of this rule is to make sure buyers can trust that all TikTok Shop products are real, valuable, and safe to purchase.
2. Mobile Phone Pricing Must Be Realistic
Sellers on TikTok Shop must list mobile phones at realistic prices that reflect their true market value. Pricing a phone too low can mislead buyers, create false expectations, and reduce trust in your store. For example, offering a smartphone that normally sells for RM4,999 at RM399 is considered a violation because it’s unrealistically low.
To comply with this rule, sellers should:
-
Set accurate prices that match the product’s market value.
-
Avoid misleading pricing tactics that make the product seem cheaper than it really is.
-
Keep listings transparent and trustworthy, so buyers feel confident making a purchase.
Breaking these rules can lead to enforcement actions, including product removal and restrictions on traffic or visibility. The goal is to ensure a fair marketplace where buyers can trust prices and sellers can maintain credibility.
