Starting 1 February 2026 , Shopee Malaysia will implement a revised Marketplace Commission Fee structure. The revised policy changes who gets charged, when it kicks in, and how it's calculated, all of which are especially important for new local Marketplace sellers.
For both new and existing Marketplace sellers, it's crucial to understand these adjustments to plan your pricing, promotions, and profit margins effectively.
Here's everything you need to know.
Who Is Considered a Marketplace Seller?
Marketplace sellers refer to local sellers who sell through Shopee’s Marketplace platform and are not part of Shopee Mall. These sellers operate standard Marketplace shops and are subject to Marketplace-specific policies and fees.
The Marketplace Commission Fee structure does not apply to:
-
Shopee Mall sellers, who follow a separate commission framework
-
Overseas sellers, which are governed by different fee structures
-
Virtual Goods sellers, as Virtual Goods are charged under a separate commission rate
What Is the Marketplace Commission Fee?
The Marketplace Commission Fee is a mandatory platform fee charged to eligible local Marketplace sellers when an order is successfully completed. This fee is charged in addition to existing transaction and service fees and helps support Shopee’s overall ecosystem, including:
-
Ongoing platform operations and system maintenance
-
Buyer and seller customer support services
-
Logistics and delivery infrastructure improvements
-
Seller tools such as performance dashboards, analytics, and sales insights
-
Promotional initiatives, including the Shopee Cashback Programme
When Will Shopee Sellers Be Charged with the Commission Fee?
The Marketplace Commission Fee is only charged on completed orders. A completed order refers to an order that has been:
-
Successfully paid for
-
Delivered to the buyer
-
Accepted by the buyer
The following orders are not subject to commission fees:
-
Cancelled orders
-
Returned or refunded orders
-
Orders that are still pending delivery
Sellers can track their completed orders via:
Shopee Seller Centre → Orders → My Orders → Completed
In cases where Shopee provides seller compensation, the compensation amount may be equivalent to the value of the completed order.

Commission Fee Grace Period for New Shopee Sellers
To support new Marketplace sellers, Shopee provides a temporary commission fee waiver. New sellers will only begin to incur commission fees after:
-
120 days have passed since listing their first product, or
-
They have reached 100 completed orders,
whichever comes first.
Who Does Not Qualify as a New Seller?
The new seller grace period does not apply to sellers who:
-
Have existing or previous Shopee shops, including those registered under the same user ID, seller ID, NRIC, or business registration
-
Have previously enjoyed Shopee’s new seller commission fee waiver
-
Take over the management or ownership of an existing shop with sales history, reviews, or goodwill
-
Operate through an agent, affiliate, proxy, or any related entity
Shopee reserves the right to assess seller eligibility at its sole discretion, including situations not explicitly listed above.
Shopee Marketplace Commission Fee Rates
The revised Marketplace Commission Fee varies based on several factors. Sellers should note that there is no single flat commission rate, the final rate applied depends on how each product is classified by Shopee.
Commission fees are determined by:
-
The product category the item belongs to
-
The product cluster and sub-category assigned to each SKU
-
Whether the seller has joined the Shopee Cashback Programme
Special Commission Fee Adjustments to Note
-
Textbooks & Activity Books (KPM Catalogue)
Orders containing at least one eligible Textbooks or Activity Books item under the Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) Catalogue will receive a fixed 3% discount on the applicable commission fee rate. -
FMCG – Food & Beverages
FMCG commission rates may differ further based on Food & Beverages sub-categories. Sellers should refer to the detailed FMCG breakdown in Seller Centre. -
Virtual Goods
Virtual Goods follow a separate commission fee structure and are not covered in this article.
How Is Shopee Marketplace Commission Fee Calculated?
The Marketplace Commission Fee is calculated based on the final product price after all seller-funded discounts, not the original listing price. Before commission is applied, Shopee deducts:
-
Seller Product Discounts – item-level discounts manually set by the seller
-
Seller Vouchers – vouchers that are fully borne by the seller

After these deductions:
-
Shopee applies the relevant commission rate based on category and cluster
-
8% SST is applied to the commission amount
The final commission fee is automatically deducted from the seller’s payout once the order is marked as completed.

Sellers can review all commission fees charged for completed orders in:
Shopee Seller Centre → My Income → My Tax Invoices
